ABOUT DI MEO

William Di Meo made his debut appearance at the main exit of The Royal Free Hospital London accompanied by his mother, father and two sisters who apparently were weeping for joy.

His first ten years were spent in Clerkenwell and then Bloomsbury during ‘The Summer of Love’. Weekends were spent listening to Psychedelic Soundscapes, hanging out at  Bar Italia Soho followed by a day at the races alongside his father as he plied his trade. (He wasn’t a jockey).

The smell of cappuccino, lots of shouting, lots of flashing colours and a lot of horses whizzing by, right on the rail. It stayed with him.

His family then relocated to Beckenham Kent home of a space alien that sang Anthony Newley songs. He attended Alleyn’s School Dulwich where his studies included art and photography and a bit of Latin.

He was also a member of the drama society which would later prove influential in William taking on a career as a theatre  sound engineer in London’s West End.

It was at this time he decided to reunite with his camera, use it as a sketchbook and document the back streets of Soho, it’s characters colours and noise. (probably too much Bukowski).

Once he had the photographs in place, he began to explore what was just around the corner, over the horizon and just out of sight. The same space and time but quite a different worlds. ‘Did they have breathable air’  was a question he often asked himself.

So many questions.

For your information this is the third of a three part series called ‘Delayed by Sleep’. This third and final collection is named.
‘Glimpse’.

To conclude, a big thank you to Christopher, Gail and Peter who helped make this possible.

We hope you enjoy the new collection and see something new in every view.
